Maintenance Worker

Job Description

Seton High School, an all-girls Catholic high school sponsored by the Sisters of Charity, seeks a full time Maintenance Worker.  We are looking for a maintenance worker candidate to take immediate and knowledgeable action when necessary assuming initiative for creative problem solving.  Someone who is determined to accomplish tasks with follow through to completion.

Upholds and models moral code consistent with teachings of Catholic Church, Sisters of Charity and mission of Seton High School and ensures all communications (written, printed, digital, verbal) are consistent with Catholic Church and mission of Seton.

Accountability: The Maintenance Worker is appointed and dismissed by the President of Seton and reports to the Supervisor of Maintenance.

Supervises:  Outside contractors at the request of Supervisor or Maintenance or Business Manager

Responsibilities

Building Operations:

Possess a basic knowledge and understanding of HVAC systems and controls to ensure effective operation of equipment.  Perform minor electric, plumbing, and carpentry repairs, as well as minor painting.  Perform regular preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities, as well as implementing preventative plans.

Monthly system checks/inspections for fire extinguishers, emergency/exit lights, safety binders, evacuation kits, emergency classroom rosters, and first aid kits.  Set-up and tear-down for special events on Seton’s campus.

Janitorial:

Emergency janitorial duties, such as immediate clean-up of spills and messes.  General grounds cleaning, weed removal, snow removal shoveling, sweeping, and trash collection

Other Areas of Support:

Use of a variety of hand and power tools, as well as test instruments.  Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.  Assist with campus safety, including fire drills, lockdown drills, etc.    Helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed.  Perform other work related duties as assigned

SKILLS

Be able to lift 75 pounds, 50 pounds overhead.  Have excellent interpersonal communication skills and maintain confidentiality.  Also the ability to organize and prioritize time, to perform outlined tasks, and necessary mechanical skills. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Evening and weekend work may be required for special events.  On-call availability is required.  Exposure to climate changes, uncomfortable temperatures and fumes.  Work with machinery and equipment requiring considerable caution.  Frequent lifting and standing

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required. 

Knowledge of large scale buildings and grounds maintenance practices, knowledge of work in skilled trades; ability to work with outside contractors; ability to read plans.
